Poe was the first Poet I read that I knew was a poet.

In my teens, I would read his works for hours. As I got older I discovered Walt and there was no going back. I daydreamed of his travels, felt every step, every experience through his words. Years later I realized I had been listening to poetry all my life, it is everywhere. From the nursery rhymes your parents read to you to the music you hear on the radio. It is all around us and life would be so much less enjoyable without it.

I have come to appreciate many forms of poetry from Seuss to Longfellow. Some are quirky and silly and others deep and insightful. I have found no rhyme or reason as to why one resonates with me, it just does.

My Favorite One

Song Of The Open Road – Poem by Walt Whitman (Excerpt)

AFOOT and light-hearted, I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me, leading wherever I choose.

Henceforth I ask not good-fortune–I myself am good fortune;
Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,
Strong and content, I travel the open road.
